Singapore's low-fare airline Tiger Airways to expand to India and China
SINGAPORE - Tiger Airways, Singapore's low-fare airline, is expanding its operations this year as it boosts flights to India and China, CEO Tony Davis said.
"Tiger Airways is expanding significantly during 2006 as we add services to both India and China, the airline is well supported by a strong financial base," he said.
Tiger Airways is Singapore's largest and most popular low-fare airline, serving 13 cities in seven countries (Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Macau, the Philippines, Australia and Indonesia.
GoAir launched Mumbai-Srinagar-Mumbai operations
Srinagar: Private airline Goair's Mumbai-Srinagar flight made its maiden journey on April 6, with company announcing plans to launch a service between Delhi and capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
GoAir chairman Jeh Wadia, who alongwith Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Baig travelled on the inaugural flight from Mumbai to Srinagar, said the service will cut travel time between the two cities by nearly three times.
The airline, which would initially operate two weekly flights between Mumbai and Srinagar, would increase the frequency depending on the demand, Wadia said.
"We will hold consultations with our partners -- Raja Rani Travels and J&K tourism department -- to decide on the frequency of flights. If there is enough demand, there would be no shortage of capacity," Wadia said.
GoAir is also expected to launch a Delhi-Srinagar service after it acquires eight more aircraft for its fleet.
Baig, who also holds the tourism portfolio, said India could attract more tourists if infrastructure and connectivity was improved.
With more and more airlines connecting Srinagar with other parts of the country the number of tourists to the state was expected to rise to 11 lakh this year, he said.
